Weekends used to be fun. It brought the promise of the casual movie, late-night parties, and the great hangover you bring to school/work the next day. It's fun since it breaks the stressful weekday routine. But what if the break becomes the routine?
4 months into bum-hood and boredom kicks in. (I'm waiting, no, holding for something to happen in my pursuit of the Stage) It's not the fact that I live my life mostly horizontally, or living off the TV's radiation, I'm fine with that, it's just..ayokong mabobo. I applied to a few companies but was ignored. Luckily, just when I was going crazy my friend Jedi gave me a raket. Then the day after, one company asked me for an interview. How nice, it does pour when it rains.
This one pays a lot more than the raket, but the raket has got people you don't want to cross if you're in my industry. So pft. And besides, I'm not one to break commitments.
I decided to go to the interview just to tell them I'd be available after a few months. So I did, and I was 30 min. late. Talk about pissing off the boss. Some other bigwig talked to me instead of the editor (I was there for an editorial assistant position), said he wanted to check out my personality. Well, whatever it is I did/say, he liked it. We got along very well, he was like your kindest uncle, and I think it'd be hard to find a boss that nice. So I was all hyped for the job, when he suddenly mentions a bad word
in sales...
Then on it was downhill for me. So I used my last defense.
ME: Ay...sir, actually I've made prior commitments eh
HIM: Ah (sudden frown, looks away)
..........Maybe we can get someone else
ME: Yes sir, I have a, kind of like, a sideline right now
HIM: (Jumps in his chair and points at me)
..........Oh! SIDELINES! I LOVE SIDELINES!
ME: Sir actually raket siya...
HIM: RAKET!!! I LOVE RAKETS
Ayaw paawat kapatid.
HIM: Maybe we can work out a schedule for you. (Looks at my resume) Oh here's your number! ok, later I'm gonna text you my number Hah? (Smiles) OK, ok
I asked for the editor. He said she was very busy and that was it for the day, patting me on the head as I stepped out the door. So there. I'm not expecting anything but if he does call and I'm free, I think I'd try it out. It pays good and has a light schedule. I'll treat the job as my "sideline" and my creative endeavours my real career. If he doesn't call, well, more sleep for me. Haha.
